It is already the last quarter of year 2009, it is already October and my 23rd birthday just passed hours ago.
On the eve of my birthday, my colleagues treated me dinner at a fusion restaurant with a very catchy name, 'No Eye Deer'. Just imagine this situation:
A : Where should we go for dinner later?
B : No Eye Deer.
A : Come on. How can you have no idea? Just simply suggest something.
(The wonder of English language).
The food at 'No Eye Deer' is good although the portion is a bit too small for the price. We noticed that there are many paintings of deers and fishes in the restaurant and found out later that the owner painted all the paintings himself. According to him, it is difficult to get paintings of deers without eyes, therefore he decided to paint them himself. Such a talented man.
One of my dear colleague gave me this :
A green and blue pen. Not pricey but they carry special meanings.
And a key chain with my name on it, simply love it.
As soon as I reached home, I saw a card resting on my table. It is from a dear friend of mine. She sent me the card all the way from Kuala Lumpur, so thoughtful of her.
When the clock struck twelve, gammy (grandmother) gave me a red packet, a very traditional but one of my favourite gift (who doesn't like money?).
Then mummy gave me two hand-made cards. They are 100% made of recycled items. She pasted pictures of me and my families, and made my immediate family members sign the cards. So creative of her, such a meaningful gift.
On the next morning, as soon as I opened my eyes, I saw a bag containing a book, a card and a bookmark. Another gift from mummy.
Then I saw two envelopes stuck on the side of my cabinet.
When I opened it, I found that it is empty.
I found a piece of paper in each of the envelope stating that I shall present this 'coupons' to my brother in order for me to redeem my card. I immediately burst out laughing because I find it really creative but hilarious.
So I presented the 'coupons' and exchanged for my birthday cards.
I love the graphics on the card cover. The contents are equally creative as the way my brother presented me my cards. He is such a humorous fella.
Later, my brother tricked me into opening the refrigerator to get something and I found a cake in there. My brother's girlfriend knew that I am a chocolate lover and baked me this super rich, pure chocolate cake.
The highlight of the day was buffet dinner at a Japanese restaurant, a treat from dad.
Cheers to a great dinner.
Although my birthday celebration was not very grand and I did not receive many presents but I am really really happy and touched. Just a text message, a greeting on facebook and even a blog entry from thoughtful people who remembers made my birthday a meaningful one. A big thank you to my family members, relatives and friends at Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Australia for all the well-wishing. Love you all!
