Yoo hoo!!.....This blog is still alive! It has been abandoned for quite a while but yes, it's still 'alive'! I had been a busy bee since the beginning of year 2009 and I sort of enjoy it. The past months were spent juggling over-time at work, ever-so-boring studies and social life. There is so much to talk about, I don't know where to start....
Perhaps we should start with Chinese New Year. The ox year started off with a blast with my close-knitted family members having a sumptuous reunion dinner. On the first day of the lunar year, my parents invited friends and colleagues to our open house. My cookies was one of the hot favourites with the guest and I was really proud of it. I enjoyed helping around and playing host although I was totally exhausted at the end of the day. On the next day, we headed south to my maternal grandmother's house at Gopeng (a small town in Perak). I spent a couple of days there indulging in more delicacies and tossing 'yee sang'. It was a very special gathering this year as all my cousins are back (from studies overseas and work) and it was a complete family reunion. I learned to play mahjong and gambled a little, playing blackjack and won.
Next up on the calendar was Valentine's Day. It was not a very special day for me as I am still single. However, when couples or even families and friends were spending quality time together on that day, I was working from home. There is a case that I had to complete over the weekend and hand in as soon as I get back to the office. Honestly, no matter how I spent that day, I think that that day is overrated. If you love your loved ones, everyday is Valentine's day. Why must you splurge and go for overpriced dinners and buy lavish gifts for your loved one only on that day? If you really love that someone, just telling him/her "I love you" is enough. Plus, you can always shower your loved one with gifts on ordinary days with no reasons but simply because you love him/her.
After Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day, it was pretty routine for me juggling work and studies until last weekend. My maternal granduncle celebrated his 80th birthday, the 'tycoon-style'. His great grand nieces and nephews organised a large-scale birthday bash for him in a chinese restaurant complete with slide shows, speeches, entertainments and long list of about 140 guests. We were all dressed to the nines and were really happy with the dinner served and the programmes on that special evening. I felt really happy to be able to meet many relatives and friends of my mother for the first time.
I felt thankful to have such a wonderful head-start in year 2009 and am hoping more to come.
